In the late hours of yesterday, shocking reports emerged of the arrest of a controversial journalist, known for his ‘For The Record’ YouTube broadcast, Okatakyie Afrifa, was taken into custody by national security after his lecture at GAMPA. Many political figures have reacted to the arrest, calling it unconstitutional.

 

Okatakyie Afrifa was arrested after sharing a post on his Facebook page, detailing how thugs chased him while he was leaving a meeting on Monday. The post gained traction on social media, with Afrifa accusing the government of orchestrating the intimidation.

 

The national security arrested Okatakyie Afrifa after seeing the post, prompting widespread calls for his release, including from Minority Leader Hon. Afenyo Markin. According to Markin, the national security aimed to intimidate Afrifa into silence, violating his right to freedom of speech and expression.
