Ghanaian Dancer Quits GWR Dance-a-Thon After 131 Hours

Frederick Boakye, a Ghanaian professional dancer, has broken the Guinness World Record for the longest individual dance marathon.

Despite resigning before achieving his target time of 168 in 8 days, Boakye set a new record for his dance-a-thon on Friday, July 18, at 131 hours.

Boakye’s attempt, held at Kwahu-Obomeng Social Centre, ended after 5 days and 131 hours, falling 37 hours short of his ambitious aim.

With his attempt, which began on July 11, 2024, he broke the previous record of 127 hours set by Srushti Sudhir of India.

This achievement places Boakye in the history books as one of the few people to have danced for such a long time.

Despite receiving minimal media attention, Boakye stayed on his feet throughout his cook-a-thon attempt, moving to rhythm and exhibiting unyielding dedication to his trade.

Boakye states that he gave up his effort owing to tiredness, which allowed him to continue the marathon.

Meanwhile, Guinness World Records has yet to formally recognize Boakye’s new record with a certificate as the Longest dance-a-thon by an individual since dethroning Srushti Sudhir.
