Don’t Blame Juju: Ola Michael Reveals the Actual Reason for the Movie Industry’s Decline

Ola Michael, a well-known and controversial filmmaker from Ghana, has expressed disagreement with the current debates around the demise of the country’s film industry.
Even though this discussion has been going on for a long time, it was recently rekindled when seasoned Kumawood actress Portia Asare claimed in a recent interview that the industry’s demise was primarily caused by some people’s decision to use juju (black magic) on their colleagues because they thought they were performing better than them.
On Saturday, August 11, 2024, Ola Micheal, host of UTV’s United Showbiz program, asserted that Portia Asare’s assertions are untrue.
Ola Michael disclosed that he believed a number of things contributed to the demise of the film business, with the alleged usage of juju being the least significant.
One of the main contributing elements, in his opinion, was the producers’ repeated release of numerous films into the system while the target audience was the same ones. This caused the system to become overloaded, forcing the audience to skip the majority of the films.
According to Ola, the Kumawood business used to release roughly 20 films into the system, all of which were parts 1 and 2, and occasionally even more.
Additionally, he contended that the industry’s inability to keep up with contemporary trends at the time was a major factor, since while some nations were producing movies on DVD tapes, Ghana was still using CDs, which resulted in lower-than-ideal quality movies due to compression.
