Stonebwoyx Explains Grammys Hiplife Snub Comments: ‘No Beef, Just My Opinion’
Dancehall musician Stonebwoy from Ghana has responded to the backlash he faced when he commented on the latest Grammy hiplife list snub, in response to a story that was published on August 19, 2024.
Musician Stonebwoy justified his earlier remarks in an interview with MC Portfolio, saying he had no personal grudges toward the artists on the Grammys list.
“I stand by the facts and have nothing against any name that has been disclosed. When it comes to capturing the authentic sound of Ghana, the word Stonebwoy must be mentioned. The list included artists like King Paluta and our own brother Black Sherif who did not participate in the hiplife era.”
In addition, Stonebwoy claimed that the Grammys piece was badly put together because the Recording Academy neglected to properly investigate and include the names of important hiplife music pioneers.
He claimed that rather than highlighting the past and present pioneers of the genre, the Grammys piece misrepresented the current state of the Ghanaian sound.
“Even though I am a product of modern hiplife, the article’s goal is to portray the Ghanaian sound. The piece effectively conveys the current situation of Ghanaian music masquerading as hiplife. We are more aware.
We can’t just sit here and wait for our sound to be recorded, as it will eventually return to King Paluta and Black Sherif.
