“24 Hours Majority” – Supreme Court Suspends Speaker Bagbin’s Ruling, NPP Regains Majority

The Supreme Court of Ghana has suspended the ruling made by speaker of parliament Alban Bagbin.

Supreme court has suspended speaker of parliament Alban Bagbin ruling on the 4 parliamentary seats where he declared them vacant.

Yesterday the speaker of parliament suspended 4 legislators and declared their seats vacant following petition filed by NDC leader Ato Forson with claims that these legislators have switch their allegience.

One of them Andrew Asiamah is standing for MP on NPP ticket despite coming to parliament as an independent candidate.

Two of them are NPP MPs, Cynthia Morrison and with the last one being an NDC MP going independent.

The NPP leader Afenyo Markin who had taken the issue to court did argued that the speaker should wait for supreme court’s interpretation of Article 97 but he went ahead with his ruling.

Today the supreme court set up a panel and suspended the ruling of the speaker of parliament Alban Bagbin till 10 days time when they bring their final interpretation on the case.
